We all are proud of Indian space programme and ISRO,we are among the countries having ability to cross the sky and reach to the space.But, all these was almost impossiable if this the person doesn’t dreamed this for our country.yes,Dr.Vikram sarabhai the father national space programme of india.he was the real hero due to whom give rise to other heros such as dr.A.P.J abdul kalam even Abdul kalam said that i was young scientist spotted by dr.vikram sarabhai, sir Satish dawan , etc.
Dr Vikram Sarabhai is indian astronomer,physics, industrialist, institute builder, Business man.
Dr. Vikram sarabhai was born on 12 august 1919 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His parents was ambalal sarabhai a renowned business man of his time and mother sarla Devi. Vikram sarabhai was eight children of his parents. He completed his matriculated from Gujarat. He was raised among nationalist people hence, he was fond of his country and in the childhood he decided to do something great for  country
So,he decided to do something great what you will do for your country ?,Does you decide anything for country?
What would you will be doing in future? think and do something for country and let's  make our country great.
So to aspire dream he went to study foreign and got admission in university of Cambridge there he studied various aspects of science, but due second world war he returned to India and started research with famous scientist Dr.C. V Raman. later He married to famous classical dancer Mrinalini sarabhai.
Vikram sarabhai,came to conclusion that how important is space programme for india as well as world.

He who can listen to music in the midst of noise can achieve great things.


So he started physical science laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad,Sarabhai successfully convinced the government of the importance of a space programme for a developing country like India after the Russian Sputnik launch (a series of three artificial Earth satellites.
Later than INCOSPAR (indian national committee for space research) is formed in 1962 it was set up by Vikram Sarabhai,later it renamed as ISRO(Indian space research organisation) which become Important organization of india.who rised our head proudly up.
He also Founded IIM in Ahmedabad.
He always motivated the Scientist and enginners of India.Due to him indian launched his first sounding rocket  on 21 November 1963 from tumba equatorial launch facility near Thiruvananthapuram.
In 1975.in 1975 with the help of Soviet union india launched his first satelite Aryabhata.The Rohini satelite is launched by indigenous launch vehicle called SLV the (satellite launch vehicle).
The establishment of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was one of his greatest achievements. 
Organization (ISRO) was one of his greatest achievements, he was also instrumental in establishing various other prestigious institutions in India such as:
  • Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad (known as cradle of space science in India)
  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad
  • Community Science Centre, Ahmedabad
  • Darpan Academy for Performing Arts, Ahmedabad (along with his wife)
  • Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram
  • Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad (This institution came into existence after merging six institutions/centres established by Sarabhai)
  • Faster Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR), Kalpakkam
  • Variable Energy Cyclotron Project, Calcutta
  • Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad
  • Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), Jaduguda, Bihar
Vikram Sarabhai was also largely responsible for the establishment and development of India’s nuclear power plants and laid the foundation for the indigenous development of nuclear technology for defence purposes.
Before his death, he had also spoken to the then President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, on the telephone.
Within an hour of the conversation, Vikram Sarabhai died at the age of 52 due to cardiac arrest in Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai died on December 30, 1971. It was the same day when he was supposed to review the SLV design before his departure for Bombay.

 Basic social and economic change needs to be brought about gradually and the more carefully and thoughtfully it is affected, the more permanent it is.


Achievements and Awards:
  • Awards: Sarabhai was awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Medal in 1962. He is the recipient of India’s two highest honors the Padma Bhushan (1966) and the Padma Vibhushan. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously in 1972.
  • The Indian Space Research Organization located in Thiruvananthapuram is named in memory of Sarabhai as Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, (VSSC)
  • On his first death anniversary (30 December 1972) Indian postal services released a postal stamp.
  • In 1973, the International Astronomical Union named a lunar crater as the Sarabhai crater.
